Gordon Watkins and the IAVS System

Gordon Watkins was a retired horticulturist who became interested in the IAVS system after attending an information session on the system. He decided to implement the system on his own and built a small-scale IAVS system in his backyard.

Watkins' IAVS system consisted of a fish tank, a sand filter that functioned as a vegetable bed. He used tilapia as his fish species and grew a variety of vegetables in the vegetable bed. Watkins' system was unique in that it lasted for 22 years without clogging, which was a testament to the effectiveness of the IAVS system.

Watkins' Contributions to Sustainable Agriculture

Watkins' implementation of the IAVS system was a testament to the effectiveness of the system and helped to promote the use of sustainable agriculture practices.

His success with the system demonstrated that it was possible to grow vegetables using the metabolic wastes of fish in a closed-loop system. Watkins' work with the IAVS system was also a testament to the importance of individual action in promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

His implementation of the system on his own demonstrated that anyone could implement sustainable agriculture practices in their own backyard.
